Mead is an alcoholic beverage created by fermenting honey with water, sometimes with various fruits, spices, grains or hops. Mead can be sparkling (carbonated) or still. The defining characteristic of Mead is that the majority of the beverages fermentable sugar is derived from honey.

Mead also encompasses 

  • Melomel – Mead produced with fruit.
  • Metheglin – Mead produced with spices. 
  • Braggot –  Mead Produced with a malted grain
  • Sour Mead –  Mead produced with lacto-bacillus fermentation 
  • Capsicumel – Mead produced with chili peppers.
  • Cyser – Mead produced with apples or apple juice
  • Pyment – Mead with grape or grape juice.
  • Bochet – Mead produced with caramelized/burned honey.
  • A combination of any or all of the above.
